The Change by Kirsten Miller
Feminist rage? Murder mystery? A bit of magical realism? Sign me up! The Change doesn’t fit nicely in any genre, seamlessly incorporating all of these themes into a delightful story about female friendship, getting better with age…and also murder. The story is centered around three women who develop new talents as they go through midlife changes and develop a friendship. The evolution of each of these women, as well as their budding friendship, made this book - which was a bit lengthy - a total page turner. While the murder mystery definitely incorporated some dark themes, the book also blended in enough humor to keep it from getting too heavy, and so much satisfying vengeance. Highly recommend to any woman who has been told she should smile more - reading feels like a healthier coping mechanism than screaming into the void.
